In 2003 Gibson offered the option of smaller frets on a 1958 Reissue, but I don't think anyone ordered any guitars built with it. I have an R7 goldtop - which I believe is constructed like an R8 without the plain top - and this guitar is top notch. I have 1 reissue which is a 2022 R8. "Normally" and R7 is a goldtop with a natural or dark back where the R8 & R9 are bursts.
